"I ain't all bad, just mostly."
Though his complete background is not known, Shame has claimed that he had to be good with a six-shooter where he came from. He has a reputation for always showing bravado and daring, but he often embraces cowardice when facing Batman. He usually tries to win fights by outnumbering his opponents and using firearms, but Batman always prevailed nevertheless. Shame wears a rather colorful outfit compared to most bandits, sporting a bright purple polka-dotted bandana during hold-ups. He has a quick temper, and when he loses it he begins screaming and throwing objects around the room.
Often the criminal was given a nickname by those who sought to capture him or her. These names could be spoken by The Caped Crusaders, the members of GCPD, or even law-abiding members of Gotham society. What follows is a list of names people have called Shame.
- the Redoubtable Road Agent
- the Bloodthirsty Bushwhacker
- the Conniving Cowboy of Crime
- the Monstrous Maverick of Malfeasance
- the Frontier Felon
Weapons and Equipment
- Six-shooter- he claims it's all he needs.
- Fear gas- well, he also needed this. Turns the victim into a total coward, no matter how brave they were beforehand.
Just as Batman and Robin do not go at crime-fighting alone, Gotham City's most notorious villains need fellow partners in crime to assist them with their malicious schemes.
Okie Annie- Shame's perky female assistant, always eager to help bushwack somebody.
Messy James, Rip Snorting- henchmen.
Andy Stevens- not really a member of Shame's gang, but he hung out with them for a while. Andy is only 10 years old, but likes to be called the Pecos Kid. He found Shame's hideout by accident one day when he was playing cowboy in the abandoned movie studio. Andy loaned Shame his radio, but Batman made him give it back when he was caught. Shame even offered to cover the cost of replacing the batteries.
Laughing Leo- unscrupulous used car salesman who joined up with Shame's gang for a short time before being taken to jail. When Batman and Robin drove in to ask him questions, he offered to buy the Batmobile, claiming that it was looking a bit tacky.
Calamity Jan- Shame's girlfriend and partner. Claims she missed him plenty while he was in jail.
Frontier Fanny- Calamity Jan's mother. Constantly asks Shame when he plans to marry Jan, and won't let them kiss until he does.
Fernando Ricardo Enrique Dominguez- called Fred to save time. He claims to be from Mexico, but his accent seems to place him somewhere in Londinium.
Chief Standing Pat- often speaks in smoke signals from his cigar.
To some people villainy is a job; but, unlike the rest of the law-abiding citizens of Gotham
City, villains do not work in an office, factory, or from their own homes. They must establish
a 'hideout' from which they can organize and orchestrate their evil deeds.
- Gotham City's central park stables
- Westernland, part of an abandoned movie studio
From time to time, those nasty villains would resort to insults. What follows are the names used by Shame.
- Bat Brats
- Dynamic Dummies
- Bat Fella
- Scaredy Bats
- Cowardly Caped Crusaders
- Dynamic Dum-dum
- Caped Clown
